Where are the best places for water sports (ie.kayaking) in San Bernardino County and the surrounding area?

I usually travel to Northern California to do WhiteWater Rafting trips and such, but I want to start doing some canoeing/kayaking and/or other water sportsl in my area. Does anyone know where would be the best places to go in the San Bernardino Area? Thanks!

There are some really small lakes near you, but I’d head east to the Colorado River, if I were you. Best time is after Labor Day, and before Memorial Day. Less big boat traffic.
