Vancouver Kayaking
Making “flight connection” manually?
Ok, I’m trying to book multi city itinerary of 3 flights.
There’s YVR-LHR, and LHR-MOW as first two flights.
Initially all sites offer me YVR(Vancouver)-LHR with one-hour connection thru Toronto, and nonstop LHR-MOW on other date.
When I choose to fly 2hr earlier out of Vancouver I get 3hr connection in Toronto to the same Toronto-London flight but for whatever reason LHR-MOW nonstop disappears! I can only choose from some useless one-stops thru Warsaw. That is the same on all sites (Kayak, Farecast, etc).
Now… When I make 4-flight itinerary, specifying Vancouver-Toronto manually and then Toronto-London manually, I get the itinerary I want (3hr layover in Toronto + nonstop London-Moscow) for correct price.
Is there any repercussions for making this manual “connection”? I am not checking in anything.
Tim: so if I’m not checking bags, no major problems?
Yes,
You are booking what the airline industry calls a “Point to Point” reservation. When you go to check in for your flight, the airline agent will only see that your flight is going from Vancouver to Toronto. You will HAVE to tell the agent that you are traveling beyond Toronto and that they will have to send your baggage with you as well.
The reservation systems only display your connections if you are using a published connection for your flight. They can re-route your bags with no problems for you because you have long layovers, however, unless you specify that your final destination is Moscow, they will not look in your reservation to see all of those extra segments.
