Vancouver Bc Kayaking
Where can I buy a good and cheap kayak in Vancouver, BC? or seattle?
I just took a kayaking lesson. I want to buy a kayak, but I don’t know if anyone can suggest me any places so I can find cheaper kayaks…
Thanks
The only way to get a kayak that’s good _and_ cheap is to buy used. Check out craigslist and local classifieds. Local kayak clubs often have their own classifieds or gear swaps and are also a good source of information. Most kayak shops sell used kayaks on consignment or from their rental/demo fleets. You should be able to get a decent used kayak for 50-75% less than the retail price of a new one. Ask about local clubs and used kayaks at the place where you took your lesson.
One alternative are to rent kayaks for a while. It might cost more at first, but after renting several times, you’ll have a better idea what you’ll want in a kayak. Some shops apply part of your rentals fees toward a kayak purchase.
Another alternative is to take more lessons depending on where you want to paddle. The Seattle/Vancouver area has a lot of great places to paddle, but a lot of the places are subject to wind, tides, and currents and can be dangerous for a novice paddler.
