Sea Kayaking Canada
Who has heard of the army/air/sea cadet program? (Canada)?
seriously, its such a great youth (12-18) program; even way better than scouts. I’m surprised not alot of people have heard of it. it develops leadership, citizenship, teamwork, discipline, physical fitness, communication skills; things that youths are lacking these days. Ive made some of the best memories and experience through this program (army cadet). and it looks REALLY good on your resume!
you get to do many things and best of all, its free (living expense, food, transportation, etc) paid by government of canada.
free overnight summer camps 2-6 weeks (they actually pay you back as training allowances to buy snacks and such)
rock climb, kayak, hike, glacier trek, bike (in the rockies)
cultural exchanges to many different countries in europe and north america
jump out of a plane
expedition in the alps of france, northern canada, new zealand
get your flying license
guaranteed summer jobs with decent pay per day
many more
I’ve heard of it and I’ve been involved with both Air and Army Cadets. I’ve also been very heavily involved with the Scouts and can say that both programs are good for their own purposes. They have different focuses and appeal to youth for different reasons.
I have found though that Air Cadets tends to attract one type of kid while Army Cadets tends to attract another. Sea Cadets is something I’ve had no direct involvement with so i can’t comment directly on it.
Air Cadets tends to attract kids who do a bit better in school and who come from two parent upper middle class families while Army Cadets tends to have more kids from single parent homes. I think the Army Cadet program is a bit limiting. I mean, what can they do but drill, band, PT and camping (its not like its a military exercise or anything) while in Air Cadets they do the same drill, band and PT but their gliding and flying program is attractive to many kids.
