Rowing Vs Kayaking

If you are in the process of planning your next vacation and you are wondering about possible new activities and adventures that you may want to try, consider kayak. While it may not be the first thing that comes to mind, there are plenty of good reasons for inclusion in its list of options. One of the great things is that the kayak is available in many parts of the world, if you will be near the ocean, sea, rivers or lakes. Almost any decent sized body of water offers an opportunity for you to try kayaking. And mostly, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly and how easily pick it up.
Many times people think of kayaking as the type of little shell bullet down some major white water rafting. While this is certainly one approach to kayaking, it is better to let the adrenaline junkies who really know what they're doing. Not the type of recreational activity we're talking about here (at least not yet).
Another way to kayak that can come to mind is the longest platform almost looks like the kind of boat used in rowing races in the Olympic Games (skulls). These are often called sea kayaks, although it can easily be used in the great lakes. They also have a little more skill and practice. The good thing for people who use this type of kayak is that you can store large quantities of equipment inside the hull, so that you can go several days of field trips carrying all (or almost) normal camping supplies.
But again, it probably is not what you want to be considering at this point, if you are a beginner. By contrast, want to look at the base, sit-on-top variety of kayaks. These are generally one piece of hard plastic, blown with a surface embedded in something you feel. As general will have some type of back support and foam back rest attached to each side of the kayak. This makes things much more comfortable than you can lean against them.
With this variety of kayaks, which are not 'tied' with a skirt or something like that. You are just sitting on the inside which is essentially a narrow carved canoe made of plastic. The beauty of this type of kayak is that they are easier to learn and use and are very stable. The risk of capsizing and falling one over water are really very small, provided they are not doing anything silly. Many people who were nervous or hesitant about one of these smaller ships water are back with huge smiles on their faces after going to give a little back in the water. Many of them make the comment that was much easier than learning to ride by bicycle! Moreover, they had no place to fall, so that is even better!
Being in a kayak, as this opens a whole new world for people who normally are limited to enjoy the water from shore. Sitting deep in the water – practically in the water – you get the feeling of being one with it. Without engine noise or distraction to flop candles and mess with all, many birds and other wildlife are curious and approach you, giving you a new level out the outdoor enjoyment.
For those People who fall for this form of recreation, it's good to know that is not terribly expensive to obtain your own kayak, and is fairly easy to transport in a car. Racks Many cars have bike adapters that make it easy to convert into a kayak rack. So if you get a taste of kayaking in the upcoming holidays, now you know you can most likely take it home with you to enjoy in your own neck of the woods.
Paul Porter is an outdoor enthusiast. When he’s not camping or writing about camping or kayaking he’s probably hiking or biking, or on his way somewhere with his trunk bike rack loaded to the hilt with bikes. His new car bike rack now allows him and his wife to travel with both of their mountain bikes and both of their road bikes, and they couldn’t be more happy about the new discoveries they are making on their bikes every weekend now.
