New York for teens?
My brothers(21,19), sister(14), and I(17), are going to New York in 9 days. We’ll be staying at Sheraton Newark but don’t know whats the quickest and cheapest way to Manhattan and surroundings. We have an allowance of $600 for 4 days. Are there any popular cheap/free places that you would recommend fora 4 day trip?
We are interested in sceneries, tours, adventurous trips(kayak, bunjee), shopping, eating, arts, concerts, live tapings, pretty much most activities, but as long as it’s under $150 a day including transportation. I read reviews in Frommers NY for $90/day but some are suitable for my older brothers and I but not for my sister
Are there any recommended bus, train, tours passes that are cheap and worth it? NY Pass will cost $390 for 3 days is it recommendable since cover most of our trip with $210 left for transportation and food With 1 day to spare is it possible for us to go to Niagra Falls if so how?
How can we get the most of our trip for cheap prices?
Thanks
That’s definitely not much for 4 people…but DON’T eat in Times Square, whatever you do- it’s double the price and the food isnt good (as far as Applebees, Friday’s, etc).
I don’t know about NJ Transit or NY Pass but get a weekly unlimited Metro Card for the subways (1 each) so your transportation is covered. You can walk over the Brooklyn Bridge for free (take the 6 to the last stop- Bklyn Bridge/City Hall) and get great views of the city from there.
It’s pretty cheap to eat in Chinatown (6 to Canal) and the stuff on the street is cheap but also fake/nothing special and if you go there ignore the people trying to sell “Coach/Fendi/Prada” bags.
Grand Central is pretty nice, also free (4/5/6 to Grand Central or Shuttle from Times Square)
Central Park is a great place to spend some time, people watch, relax, etc…
go to 34th street/herald square for reasonably priced stores (where Macys is) — 5th Ave and Madison in the 50s are more for well-heeled shoppers.
8th and 9th Ave along with 1st and 2nd generally have small places to eat that are cheap and good too!
As far as Niagra Falls…that’s a trip in itself.
Have fun!
