What type of kayak for a beginner should buy a lake?

I live on a lake and want to buy a kayak not sure what to buy

There are 3 basic types of kayaks, recreational, whitewater and sea. There are others too, but those are the basics. White water rapids is for rivers and kayaking sea are for open water. Want a recreational kayak. Perfect for lakes. As a beginner there are 2 things you want-1) 2) Stability of maneuver 3) Comfort (most important) not suggest buying them off the Internet because they want to be able to test them. You probably want a fairly short boat for easy maneuverability, but all which provides stability. Apart from that it's all about what is comfortable for you. Check at local places that sell kayaks and see if they have any demos kayak. Usually bring kayaks on a lake and you can try out for free. If that is not possible, try to rent. You want to make sure you are comfortable and you like the handling before to spend money. If this is not able to take it for a test paddle at least have to configure it in the shop floor so you can sit in it to make sure they feel well. I hope that helps.
