Kayaking Tips For Beginners

In our review of the Pelican Kayak Fishing Potomac, we realized that this is good for $ 200, but it needed serious work. This led us to burst the mountains, a brand new …. (1 trip in the water) kayaking. Crazy? Probably, but hey, it must fit me, not everyone! I hope you can do the same to the Potomac. It can be a decent kayak!

The first thing to do was cut holes in the front and rear of the kayak. The hole in the front is large enough for a battery to enter. We had plans to put a drag engine configuration here, so we cut the hole for that. Once however, was large enough to reach something on the boat. This accessibility was increased to 100%!

The next step was the lack of access to the rear of the boat. The Pelican is molded seat in this kayak, do not allow you to reach back and put things behind the seat. This was a big drop, but again, I knew that with a hacksaw, you can easily solve. We started to cut, and finished with a hole large enough to accommodate a fishing tackle box in there accessibility storage is 200% in 1 hour of work.

The hatch, during manufacture, had sharp edges left on the inside of it. This was to be fixed. Using some PVC pipe insulation, wrapped me the hatch at the bottom of the seat all the way around, back across the seat. This allowed me soft place to rest your legs, without being hit all at the end of the day.

We have also put a little more than the foam insulation on the top of the hatch. This hard plastic was hard on the elbows, and after the addition of these arm rests, I really do not want to leave the water. Insulation is used PVC to wrap the 2 holes you have cut into the deck of the kayak for storage too. These things really clean the pot.

Adding an anchor trolley and steering really added to the control of the boat as well. In strong winds, or a strong current, it was impossible to keep the ship anchored in one place, and against the direction I wanted. With the wheel installed, we were able to dig in our palette, and really get the boat moving at a decent pace. This also helped the fight against the wind or upstream, with keeping the boat going in one direction.
