Notes Halong Bay

Kayaking in Ha Long Bay. Photo of Indochina Sails

Megan and I ended our time in SE Asia in the style of cruising around Halong Bay on a luxury Chinese junk. Although we were not at all times under the real power of the sail still had masts and very authentic. We spent the afternoon browsing in the heart of the 2000 islands that populate the bay. We ate a delicious lunch served in traditional bowls community and then landed a couple of hours of kayaking. (See photo) we kayak through caves and a quiet cove that is accessible only through caves. Our trip was organized by two guides, one a West London who decided to spend a couple of weeks working for this company and the other a Vietnamese named Viet both were in their twenties. Megan and I were joined by 21 travelers from around the world, we had British, Scottish, Brazilian, Quebec, Americans, Mexico and a boy were all ready for fun and really a great group of people to spend a couple of days. During our time in cove that someone managed to dump kayak would not be a problem for a standard sea kayak, but they were really kayaks river and therefore do not float. It took 20 minutes and some delicate feet and razor sharp stone, but was drained back afloat. While the delay put us behind schedule and late for an appointment with the Jolly Roger we did get to take a look at a monkey who happened to swing down from the top of one of the surrounding peaks to investigate the commotion below. Back aboard ship, we settled in our respective cabins to shower for dinner and a spectacular sunset. After dinner we spent the afternoon taking part in games drinking more intelligent discourse and others. Finally, the night devolved into feats of courage and began leaping from the top of the boat in the dark waters below. To the next day we fought through different levels of hangover and trekked on a slippery slope toward the top of a picturesque peak. Most of us I thought it was not good enough, so I climbed a tower stood the old tower on the hill. It was very, very rusty and had a nerve shelves creak to it when the wind picked up. (Also it was two steps in which the top step was about 120ft above the jungle canopy.

We now in Indonesia, Jakarta is specific and is seriously contemplating a spur of the moment of direct flight to Bali. Not that we do not like the city, although rats are brave enough to walk the streets in broad daylight, we just want to be in a beach town fun for the final full moon of our journey that passes to be tomorrow night.

We will notify you if we do at the moment.
