Austin is a world class city, full of things to see and what to do if you are a long-term native or first-time visitor. Known for its vibrant music scene, Austin combines a rich Western tradition, southern hospitality and a touch peculiar own. With its many museums and historical exhibits, shops and establishments food out of the ordinary, and all Austin has to offer could take a lifetime. Here are some of Austin's attractions not to be missed.

Texas State Capitol in Austin

History buffs will love visiting the Capitol building and navigation through historical displays, including a collection of artifacts from the Battle of Saratoga in the Chamber Hall. Much of the original architecture is still in the display, giving visitors a sense Austin's place in Texas history. Nearby attractions include the Texas Governor's Mansion and the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum so that visitors can of modern sculpture with the art of Texas history, Umlauf Museum offers art lovers a look back at the history of Texas. Each style of Texas art from portraits classic Depression era is on display paintings and sculpture garden features the work of Texas' own Charles Umlauf, and many parts Umlauf students. Lectures and workshops are also available, and reservations are usually required.

Zilker Botanical Garden

A peaceful retreat from the bustling city outside, Zilker Botanical Garden offers a traditional rose garden, herb garden and cactus garden and as some unusual gardens that make Austin a unique attraction. One of the most popular gardens in the complex is the Isamu Taniguchi Japanese garden with a teahouse Japanese traditional bridges, rock walls, and Koi-filled reflecting pools. Children will love the Hartman Prehistoric Garden, which reproduces closely as possible the habitat of the Cretaceous and even includes a full size sculpture of a Ornithomimus, a dinosaur that once lived in the Austin area.

Austin Nature and Science Center

Only by way of the Zilker Botanical Garden, Austin Nature and Science Center offers the dinosaurs More on the Dino Pit, allowing visitors in search of dinosaur fossils in a replica of an actual site of paleontological site. Other exhibits include a collection of native wildlife and naturalist Texas A workshop to help visitors explore the plant life native to Austin.

Lady Bird Lake

Tourists and natives of Austin as a pause in the night, watching the flight of Mexican free-tailed bats under the bridge on Congress Avenue. Austin is home to more than 1.5 million of these bats, so the screen is impressive. The lake serves kayakers and canoeists, and music lovers do not miss a visit to the Memorial Stevie Ray Vaughan's, located on the lakeshore. Outdoor concerts and music festivals are frequently held here or in nearby locations throughout the year.

Austin Steam Trains

No discussion of Austin's attractions would be complete without mentioning the Austin Steam Train Association and its travel to week of the Texas Hill Country outside Austin. Vintage passenger coaches offer a unique view of the field and a look back in history, including a tour of the 1912 Bertram Train Depot. Reservations are recommended.
