How do you become a kayak instructor?

I’m sixteen and have fallen in love with kayaking. I have been kayaking for a few years but not until this summer did i really get into it. I recently learned to roll so theres my skill level. I know I can’t teach but I would love to help with birthday parties and stuff like that. Any suggestions?

Teaching is about much more than being proficient in a ceratin skill, so you need to know how to demonstrate, explain and look after people’s safety.

There can be many different opporutunities for teaching. If you live in the USA, getting your American Canoe Association Kayak Instructors certification may help open some of these opportunities. Outdoor paddeling programs in particiular will wish to see this and the course if very good.

However there are other opporutnities as well which may include summer camps and schools, clubs and community recreation programs.

Keep working on your skills and take the opporuntity to teach others informally when ever you can. You’ll be surprised what may come your way down the road.
