Search Pyranha. Inquire about local sources at the British Canoe Union. You need some lessons and experience before making such decisions. Deaths are increasing in canoeing and kayaking. Reasons: inexperience, lack of training and inadequate equipment. You need clothing suited for the temperature. You can use a regular paddle, both blades in the same plane. Depending on your choice the left handed or right handed paddle will be more efficient. There are many kayak types: flat water, whitewater, downriver, slalom and play boats to mention a few. Rule: always boat with at least two others! Reason; if one is injured, one stays with that person and one seeks help.
