As fire control technician in the Navy, which maintains the team told the big boys where to point, and what you shoot. That equipment includes computers and gyroscopes – Things that worked for electronic and mechanical technology.
I had to know how to maintain, troubleshoot and repair it.
Near my service down I looked through some of the possibilities career in the Navy "employment office" where I found a file Navy avionics Indianapolis facility (FINA). That file describes the position Fire Control Mechanic. It was mechanical and electrical work, as I did in the Navy. FINA sent a resume, and applied for a job as a mechanic fire control.
A couple months later I received documentation (much of it) from FINA, and thought, "That's a lot of writing for fill out the forms, "but I did anyway, and sent it back to them.
When I left the Navy I started working in a company printing in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Two of my uncles worked there, and he said he always needed help Donnelley.
That was in February 1974 and my salary item was $ 2.65 per hour. At least my memory tells me started on that salary level. Been a long time.
Later that month I got another package from FINA with more forms to fill out, and I remember thinking at that time did not want to do everything we write again. (Although not exactly the same way as before, were similar). Also, I had a job making some money, why bother? Then I thought, FINA not hire me, if not fill out the forms, so I did and sent them in.
In March, I received another package of forms of FINA, and by that time I had made my mind to send any information they wanted. It is obvious that there was any interest in hiring me, so I began to believe I got the job. Moreover, everything that cost me writer was a bit of cramp and a stamp.
After 30 days Donnelley have increased to $ 3.00 an hour. The prospects beyond that are not visible well, because after 17 years, a work colleague, doing the same job that I only paid $ 6.50 an hour. Not much room for advancement there, Huh?
In April I have yet another package of FINA, sat night, fills out the forms, and sent back the next day.
In June I received a call from the employment office Nafi inviting me to Indianapolis for an interview. We have created an appointment and I kept it. In fact, I interviewed three different people that day. I felt that they were definitely interested in hiring me.
The following week FINA called and offered me the job. They wanted to start immediately. I ordered two weeks to give notice to the printing company, and I said yes.
Two weeks later I started working for $ FINA 5.45 to the hour, starting pay for that moment.
I promoted a number of different career levels in FINA, and retired in 1997 at the age of 46, with a check monthly pension for the rest of my life.
All because somewhere deep inside me had faith that I could do the work necessary to do so FINA, because I thought I had wanted to do that job, and it was persistent in filling out the paperwork before they hired me they wanted – and asked me to work.
