Florida Kayaking
What is good cold-weather apparel for kayaking?
I am going kayaking in Florida in December. I need to know what would be good, cold water, kayaking gear. I have a spray skirt already, but not much water related gear. I do have some backpacking gear though. Would outer, water resistant shells (like my marmot) that are made for backpacking be as efficient for kayaking? And what about footwear? All I have are some water shoes for summer/spring. Are there any insulated water boots? Thanks!
I have patagonia base layer that I use for backpacking is that good? I use fleece pants and fleece jacket, and a marmot outer shell to protect against water. Is this good so far?
Sir I am sorry your getting info from others that want to keep you dry! I to live on the gulf coast close to Pensacola and When it is cool out yes by all means do try and stay dry but dress as if you are, be prepared! Wear a surf suit,3mm or better diving booties are good for winter yaking, as is wool. WOOL retains 60-70 of it warming values if/when wet. For me in the winter months my shorty surf suit is all I’ve needed, when wet will still warm you and with the spray skirt and working the paddle I have seldom gotten cold if so then put on the waterproof parka or just a nylon jacket to shed drops.
