Bsa Kayaking
Can I go on a boy scout trip if…?
I have a friend who wants to bring me on one of his boy scout trips on a 9 day kayaking trip in North Carolina . However, I he doesn’t know if i would have to join in order to go on it or if i could just sign a liability waver and be done with it. Does anyone know if there is a restriction for this? thanks
it is also a bsa troop i was involved with a few years ago but other things got in the way so i had to leave the troop.
Hello Alec:
You will need to contact the adult in charge of the trip. Non-Scouts may be able to attend, depending on if the adult in charge wants to take on the responsibility. I’ve been on trips where siblings and unregistered parents participated.
It has a lot to do with liability. If you are under 18, you cannot sign a waiver of liability, as it will not be admissible in court. If it is a kayaking trip, the adult will need to know that you are trained in kayaking and basic swimming.
The benefits of joining is that you will be covered by BSA’s group insurance. It only costs $10 to join the troop, and you do not have to go to the meetings after the event.
Bottom line, contact the adult in charge of the trip.
Keep on Scoutin’
