Of the 20 peaks higher in the United States, 17 are in Alaska. Mt McKinley, the tallest peak in North America, 20,320 meters over sea level. Denali, the Indian name of the summit, means "The Great".
GLACIERS
Alaska has an estimated 100,000 glaciers, ranging from small cirque glaciers to large valley glaciers. There are more active glaciers and ice fields in Alaska than in the rest of the inhabited world.
